Episcleritis is an inflammatory condition affecting the part of the eye that is called the episclera, which is the outermost layer of the sclera (white part of the eye).
It is a relatively common condition which in most cases causes mild pain or irritation but no vision-related problems.
The causes for Episcleritis are unknown but there are correlations with people who have other inflammatory diseases like Rheumatoid arthritis, Tuberculosis or Syphilis.
Treatment is usually not necessary because it is an self-limiting condition, this means it will be recovered on its own. In severe cases it is advised to take anti-inflammatory drugs.
